Starting a Online Business - A Closer Look

By Cecil Heim

Starting a online business is in fact very easy. Anybody with basic computer skills can start a web business. In this article we will have a closer look at one of the options available and the steps you will take when starting a online business.

The main means to earn money on the internet is by selling something. You can either sell your own product if you have one, or someone else's product for a commission.

If you are thinking of starting a online business. Chances are you do not have a product of your own. So let's get you started by selling other people's products.

You need a product to sell. As ClickBank has the widest selection of products. This would be a good place to start, by opening a free account. When the account is set up you will receive a few directional emails. Read them, as well as the "getting started" section on the ClickBank Site. This will give you an idea of how the system works.

The next step is to open an account with Google Adwords. Without Adwords you will not be able to get anywhere so the minimal setup costs are well worth it. You will need this account to advertise the products your are selling as well as do Keyword Research.

Once again, when your account is confirmed, do some reading to get to know the service. In brief this is how it works. You place an ad for the product you are selling and select the keywords that would attract customers to your ad. You would bid on the keywords your have chosen and it stands to reason that the more popular the keyword, the higher the bid.

Now let's find a product to sell. I recommend that for starters you find a product on a subject you know something about. Go to the market place in you ClickBank account and do a search on the subject of your choice. Have a look at the commissions paid as well as the conversion factors. I would not go for anything that pays less the $20. Make a list of about 5 to 10 possibilities.

Now you need to find out if the products have a chance of being viable. To do this we will be using Google Adwords Keyword tool. First thing, go to the keyword tool and enter the exact title of the product you want to sell and ask Google to suggest keywords.

Now have a look at how many searches there are for that product. Remember that the results given by Google are monthly. You want a minimum of 3000 searches per month. Then you look at the competition. The higher the competition the higher the minimum bid amount is to get on page one. Also, have a look at the estimated required bid.

If your product is for example, "How to loose Weight". Anyone using this search term would most likely want to loose weight. Then the visitor to your ad would be more inclined to buy. On this basis, for every 100 clicks on your ad, one sale should be made. Therefore, if your bid is .10c you need only one sale to break even. Additional sales will be pure profit. Get the picture.?

This may not sound like you will not be making a lot of money. But, repeat the same procedure with 20 to 30 products giving a profit of $300.00 each per month. See how it ads up.?

Let's continue. Now look at the other suggested keywords to find, on the same basis as above, keywords that closely describe the product. Include these keywords in your keyword list. You do not need 100's of keywords. 5 or 6 that are closely related to the product that have a low minimum bid are ideal.

Once this is all done. You can now write the ad. If your product is "How to cook Beef". That would be the title of the ad. For the body of the ad. You could have a look at some of the ads that come up with your search term. Select the best one, but change it a bit to make it yours.

Job done. Run the ad. A word of warning though. In the world of Google Adwords. If you do not carefully monitor your expenses against profits. It could become a very expensive exercise. What you also need to know is which of your keywords are making you money and which are not. If this is done properly. Then starting a internet business could be a very pleasant experience.
